Every Monday in Infopeka there is a cinema session. Where we can watch a lot of movies : Pulp Fiction, Arold & Maud, Old Boy...
For february the theme was silent movies. We've seen Charlie Chaplin's movies : City light, Modern Times and the Great dictator, since we arrived.
After watching movies we go to discuss about what we've seen, our impression, feelings, in a Pub near Infopeka. It's a good way to meet slovenian:)

we need this card to be a regular spectator

For March we would like to show french movies. We make a selection in chronological order.

Gallery K18 - Keisuke Oki

We discovered gallery K18 : in this gallery there is the residence program of Infopeka. They invite international artists to expose their works. Numerous exhibitions throughout the year offer the possibility to various artists of various ages and artistic backgrounds to present their work. It gives the opportunity to artists who have just begun their career to have their own exhibition.
Maybe we will participate at setting up exhibitions, cultural events.

This time they receive Keisuke Oki who is a Japanes Artist. He works and lives in Tokyo. His art work uses new media and music. Mostly his concerns are the transformation of human body and conscious in the technological society. As a musician, he covers various musical fields including experimental electronic music, electronica, jazz and ancient chinese/japanese music.
He participated at the Computer Art Festival (IFCA) in Slovenia in 2012.

First time

We decided to make a blog to translate our experience in the European Voluntary Service and what is our feeling about Slovenia, Maribor, INFOPEKA... our expectations what will work and our difficulties.
Maribor seems to be a quiet little city. A bridge separates INFOPEKA to the center of Maribor but the organisation stays close to the city. INFOPEKA is also integrated in the life style of Maribor.
People seems to be curious and the volunteers question us about France and they wonder why we chose to come to Maribor. They are attached to their city and they want to make it better and also accessible to foreigners. We can feel how they stand together.

When we arrived there was snow, we were not used because we came from Paris where there was sunny, but few days after the snow has melted. We have impression that the weather change quickly :)

Library : Tete Rose

Tete Rose means Aunt Rosa. It's a library where we can find only books about: revolution, freddom, anti mondialisation, etc. It will be available a socially committed literature, rebellious and radical, which is more difficult, is that you can't find this type of book in other libraries of Maribor.

Rosa means Rosa Luxemburg (1871-1919). She was a Marxist theorist, philosopher, economist and revolutionary socialist of Polish Jewish descent who became a naturalized German citizen. She represents well the idea of revolutionary and that's why they choose her picture.

Our first work at INFOPEKA was to improve library. We organised books in alphabetical order by reporting their position by a marking. Which allows a better use for people.

The Giirls :

Here I am in Slovenia for my European Voluntary Service. I come from the suburb of Paris and i had finished my studies of Plastic Arts. It means that i am a created person who needs experience in art work.
That is why i choose to come to Maribor in INFOPEKA association for my European Voluntary Sservice. Because they have a gallery of art called K18 where they receive international artists.
INFOPEKA propose also others missions for volonteers. That is my state of mind when i leave Paris and my family.

Jade, the artist.

Jazz Club Stachmo

I'm also in Slovenia for an European Voluntary Service experience. I'm a french girl ( from Nantes) who like art, culture and cinema. I studied curatoring, to organize exhibitions in art center, museum.
After more reflexions I decided to come to Slovenia to discover a new culture and new country. At INFOPEKA to propose my own events and participate at cultural projects as what I studied in France and to have a new experience in a foreign country.

Clem, the curator.
